Popular local tearoom closes for good
Locals have expressed shock and sadness as popular tearoom Four Candles has announced that it is closing for good.
The tearoom in Holton-le-Clay launched in 2015, but is now sadly closing due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Four Candles are renowned locally for their cakes and sweet treats.
On social media, the owner of Four Candles said:
“This post is something we never thought we would have to write but it’s with great sadness that we have had to close our doors for good.
“We just couldn’t survive throughout these tough times.
“We would like to thank all our customers for there support before and throughout this awful pandemic, we will miss every single one of you, all 9,154 of you that has liked our page, shared our posts and just supported us every way you could, it means so much to us.
“I took over four candles last October and it was the best thing I ever did. I personally would like to thank Gemma, Debbie, Grace, Joy, Tracy and Emily for making me feel so welcome from the day I started they’ve been an asset to have had working at four candles.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure working with you and I love you all. We’ve laughed and cried together and I will miss you all dearly!”
This led to hundreds of messages from customers expressing their sadness.
One local resident responded:
“It’s an absolute shame it’s closed down. We used to go there every Thursday, the food was always excellent, the service was brilliant and everyone I know loved it.
“Whoever takes it on next is going to be taking on a gold mine, it is so well loved in the area. It breaks my heart that they had to close, especially with something they couldn’t avoid that wasn’t their fault.”
Another said:
“So very sorry to read this. Such a superb place. But during such hard times it’s no surprise.
“You will be greatly missed. Wishing you all the best for whatever chapter lies ahead for you now.”
More than 500 comments were left, with many saying they were sad to see the business go.
