Angling banned at Doncaster lake due to poachers

Angling has now been banned at a Doncaster lake after it was repeatedly targeted by poachers.

Askern Lake Fishing Club, have suspended all fishing until further notice following reports that poachers were stealing fish to eat.

The lake is situated on the main A19 road through Askern.

Reportedly, the location has become victim to several nighttime attacks, with poachers working the lake to steal and eat carp.

Lockdown restrictions regarding fishing have recently been lifted and the sport has been allowed to resume.

Speaking via social media, a spokesperson for the club said:

“In light of the recent incidents of poaching, fishing on the lake is suspended pending an Environmental Agency investigation.”
