Doncaster man in suspected arson

Charges have been brought against a Doncaster man following a suspected arson attack, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to an address in Ratten Row, Wadworth at 9.54pm on Friday 26 June.

It is believed that a fire had been started deliberately in the garden at the address.

This left two women with serious burns.

A 40-year-old woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

A 19-year-old woman also suffered burns to her legs and received hospital treatment.

She has since been discharged, and a 22-year-old man has subsequently been charged with having deliberately started the fire.

Connor O’Rourke appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 June charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

He was remanded in police custody, where he remains.

O’Rourke, of Beechfield Road, will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday 22 July.

A spokesperson for the force said that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone with information that could assist South Yorkshire Police officers is urged to call on 101 quoting incident number 1134 of 26 June.
