By Sudden death of Doncaster nurse
Thousands has been raised for the family of a 26-year-old Doncaster nurse who died suddenly from pneumonia and organ failure last week.
Danielle Housley’s parents Sharon and Simon made the difficult decision to turn off their daughter’s life support machine last Tuesday.
Her condition had deteriorated dramatically after she was placed into a coma nine days earlier.
Danielle worked as a nurse.
In March, she moved out of the family home she shared with her mother and sister to protect her younger sibling, who suffers from life-limiting conditions, from coronavirus while she supported adults with complex needs.
Her mother, Sharon, said that devastatingly, Danielle “moved out to save other people’s lives and she ended up losing her own life.”
Since her death, family friend Natalie Doherty has launched a fundraiser to pay for her funeral and a memorial bench in the family’s garden.
She wrote:
“Dani leaves behind 2 more siblings Matthew and Cameron as well as Jamie-lee.
“Jamie-lee suffers from several severe life limiting illness which needs around the clock care.
“When lockdown happened in March, Dani made the very selfless choice to temporarily move out of her home she shared with her mum and Jamie-lee to protect Jamie-lee’s health so she could carry on being a valuable key worker.
“Dani moved out to protect all the vulnerable people around her so she could still give her all to her service users. This was a very selfless act which has now cost poor Dani her life. “
More than £4000 has been raised.
Sharon added: “We can’t thank anyone enough. It proves the kind of person Danielle was.”
Tributes have poured in from those who knew Danielle best.
Danielle moved back in with her family on 22 June but was sadly taken ill and hospitalised on the same day.
