Man carrying meat cleaver arrested in Doncaster

Officers for South Yorkshire Police were called to Baxter Gate in Doncaster after reports of a man carrying a meat cleaver around town.

Calls were first received at around 10.10am yesterday morning,

The 35-year-old suspect was located on Imperial Crescent and arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

A witness reported seeing the man ‘running down’ the street in Doncaster, before he was tackled to the ground by police.

Nobody is thought to have been injured and the suspect remains in police custody.

He has not yet been identified.
