Armed man arrested in Grimsby town centre
Officers have made an arrest near Freeman Street following reports of a man with a firearm, Humberside Police have confirmed.
Calls regarding the incident were received at around 4pm yesterday, Monday 27 July.
Witnesses claim to have seen a man holding a suspected firearm on Frederick Ward Way in Grimsby.
Responding to the allegations, officers located the suspect on Hainton Avenue near Freeman Street, where he was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
A taser was drawn as a precautionary measure.
Following the arrest of a man who is suspected to have been armed in Grimsby town centre, Humberside Police have now launched a public appeal and are looking for anyone that can help with their enquiries.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said:
“We received reports of a man with a suspected firearm near Frederick Ward Way, Grimsby just before 4pm today, Monday 27 July.
“Officers responded within five minutes and arrested a man on Hainton Avenue. No-one was injured during the incident and the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.
“Due to the nature of the incident, a Taser was drawn, however the situation was quickly resolved without the Taser being deployed.
“Anyone that can help with our enquiries that has not already spoken to us is asked call us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 326 of today, 27 July.”
