North Lincolnshire Council are currently carrying out a series of enhancement works at Sheffield Park in Scunthorpe.

Sheffield Park has been a popular location for the local community for many years.

It is hoped that the plans will improve the open space for generations to come.

A fully resurfaced entrance and boulevard has already transformed the entrance to the park, which highlights the variety of trees including Copper Beech and Blue Spruce.

The main entrance gates have been polished and re-painted, and pavements and walking areas are being redefined.

Old fencing from within the park has been removed to open up the space and create a bigger grassed area.

Now, the council are enhancing the children’s play facilities, and are installing additional skating ramps.

Areas of the park have been designated and are being prepared for bulb planting.

Wild meadow areas will provide colour and attract wildlife to the park.

The council added that many of the existing trees are being thinned and attended to, with any cuttings being chipped and utilised within the meadow areas of the park.

Councillor David Rose, cabinet member for Environment, said:

“The Covid-19 pandemic has given many people a greater appreciation for, and enjoyment of, open spaces and there are lots of brilliant places to explore in North Lincolnshire.

“By carrying out these works it will make sure Sheffield Park continues to be a welcoming and enjoyable place for families to visit.

“We pride ourselves on our green spaces in North Lincolnshire and recognise the many benefits they have on our health and wellbeing.

“This is why we have committed to carrying out improvement works at a number of our parks.

“We are now looking to create a ‘Friends of Sheffield Park’ group and would encourage people in the local community to get involved.”

The council have now set their sights to creating a ‘Friends of Sheffield Park’ group to keep the community connected and encourage people take a role in maintaining and developing the park.

People interested in becoming a ‘Friend of Sheffield Park’ can call the council on 01724 297000.
