Major Government funding for Scunthorpe estate
North Lincolnshire Council have announced that Westcliff Estate in Scunthorpe is to benefit from a £550,000 Government grant.
The money, which has come from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund, will be used for crime prevention services and to improve the safety of the community.
Over the past few years, millions of pounds have been spent on the estate to fuel the development of homes, shops and services.
These new funds are to be used on a variety of crime reduction measures over the next 12 months.
It is thought that this will include new entrance doors and video intercoms on communal flats, new fencing and gates, and potentially redesigning the areas between flats to reduce anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“This is a major investment by the Government that will make a real difference people living, working or visiting the Westcliff Estate.
“The money will be used to reduce crimes that have a major impact on people’s lives – burglary, theft and robbery.
“The council will continue to work with partners to improve community safety across North Lincolnshire.”
Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter added:
“This funding is the latest in a series of successful bids by my office to build safer communities.
“Today’s Safer Streets Fund announcement represents positive news for the Westcliff estate.
“This funding will deliver initiatives that will prevent and reduce crimes such as burglary, theft and robbery and also encourage community involvement to benefit all who live there.”
The funding for Westcliff Estate was secured after the Office of the Police and Crime Commisioner for Humberside submitted a bid to the Government.
This was supported by North Lincolnshire Council, Ongo Homes, Humberside Police and the North Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership.
