CCTV appeal for Orwell Street sex attack

Following a sex attack on Orwell Street, Humberside Police have issued a CCTV appeal showing footage of four young men they would like to speak to.

The incident occurred at around 4am on Sunday 2 August on Orwell Street in Grimsby.

Humberside Police have confirmed that the victim had been raped, having previously referred to it as a ‘serious sexual assault’.

Yesterday, it was announced that a 24-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of rape and a drugs offence.

The suspect remains in police custody.

In a statement released immediately following the incident, Inspector Ian Wright of Humberside Police said:

“The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers, and I want to offer my reassurance to the public that we are treating this incident as a priority.

“Neighbourhood officers are patrolling the area and are available should anyone want to speak to them.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may be able to assist with the investigation to please come forward.”

This afternoon, a spokesperson added:

“Can you help us to identify the men shown in the CCTV images?

“We believe them to be witnesses who could help us with important information in relation to an active investigation.

“This is following a report of an incident at approximately 4am on Sunday 2 August on Orwell Street, Grimsby.

“A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape and a drugs offence in connection with the incident remains in our custody at this time.

“We want to be clear that the men in these CCTV images are believed to be potential witnesses in this case.

“If you believe one of these men to be you, or you have any information that could help us identify them, please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 163 of 2 August 2020.”
