Fines issued after illegal Doncaster street party

South Yorkshire Police have attended an estate in Doncaster to break-up an illegal street party, which resulted in fines being issued.

The party was discovered by Community Support Officers on patrol on Kirk Street, Hexthorpe on Friday night.

The area is already covered by a Public Spaces Protection Order, or PSPO, which gives officers increased powers to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The issue was dealt with in relation to the PSPO, rather than because of a breach of social-distancing regulations, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed.

The crowd was dispersed and several people were handed fines.

A spokesperson for the force said:

“The group was spoken to and dispersed and fines issued for breach of PSPO.

“This was an antisocial behaviour issue in an area where we have a PSPO.

“This enabled us to disperse people and prevent them from continuing with their antisocial behaviour.”

Over the past several months, South Yorkshire Police have dealt with a number of large gatherings including bike-meets.

They are working in partnership with Doncaster Council in order to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.
