Donations pour in for son of Dudley man who died on night out in Sedgley

Almost £9,000 has been raised for a Dudley boy whose dad died after a violent incident in Sedgley.

Reece Cox (24) died outside Wetherspoons pub The Clifton in the Bull Ring, just before midnight on Saturday.

A gofundme page set up just two days ago to pay for a holiday for his young son has now (Thursday) reached £8,824 of its £10,000 target after 564 people have donated.

The page, called ‘little boy who lost his daddy’ has been organised by Emma Munn, who said Reece was ‘trying to do the right thing’ and had stepped in to help a person he didn’t know when the incident happened.

She said: “He passed away at the scene from a severe head injury. He was just 24 years old, leaving his partner and their little boy without his daddy.

“Everyone that knew Reece knew he was a lovely young man wouldn’t hurt anyone.

“His family is devastated by this incident.

“For a little boy who is not going to see his daddy come through that door again, I’m taking to this to raise money so his little boy can have a lovely day out somewhere he wants to go or even a little holiday. Never easy losing anyone. Not under such circumstances as Reece’s family has.

“Please people that knew Reece and are touched by his story, I would like to ask you to give as little as you like or can give to give his son a day to remember many thanks.”

And in an update she wrote: “So overwhelmed WOW! On behalf of Reece’s dad Daz and his partner Becky they can’t begin to thank you all enough. Just shows there is a lot of good in this world. RIP Reece.”

One person who donated wrote: “Made me smile to see a proud dad taking his son to pre-School every day. So sorry for your loss. God bless and keep him safe.”

Police have arrested five men, from Pensnett, Lower Gornal and Birmingham, on suspicion of murder.
