Council propose controlled parking zone in Cleethorpes

North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner ENGIE have proposed creating a controlled parking zone in Cleethorpes.

The council are currently engaging with local residents in Cleethorpes to identify whether there is a need, following a number of requests for the introduction of resident parking schemes.

This follows increasing concerns around local shoppers, tourists and commuters using residential roads for long periods of time.

Implementing a controlled parking zone would allow local authorities to put restrictions in place, allowing residents to be able to park closer to their properties, unaffected by shoppers, tourists and commuters.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said:

“We understand the frustration of residents when they are unable to park close to their properties and we have been contacted by a number of residents about the issue.

“Highway officers at ENGIE have been working with ward councillors to identify a proposed area to engage with residents affected by this issue and will be writing to these residents in the coming days for them to share their feedback and identify what sort of scheme may be required.

“This piece of work will take time to complete due to the complex nature of such a scheme. We will have to consider existing permit holder schemes and manage any potential knock-on effect of non-residential vehicles moving elsewhere to other streets.

“I’m committed to working with local residents and the officers involved to help develop a solution to this issue and allow them to park without unnecessary disruption close to their homes.”

What are your thoughts – would a controlled parking zone improve Cleethorpes for residents?
