Cannabis grow found in Doncaster field

Dozens of cannabis plants have been found in a major fly-tipping incident in a field near a Doncaster village, it has been reported.

The discovery was made by a local jogger, who claimed that the amount of rubbish and plants abandoned must have been brought using a van or a truck, and that the tyre tracks are still visible.

He has called upon anyone who might have information to contact the police.

He added:

“I don’t think there is more flytipping in Tickhill than in any other rural area, but it was just the size of the quantity of items that had been ditched.”

The fly-tipping was found in a field off Wellingley Lane, Tickhill, around half a mile from the A60.

It is thought that the plants were abandoned over the weekend.

Other locals have suggested that there are regular hotspots where plants are frequently abandoned throughout the city.

South Yorkshire Police have yet to comment on the cannabis grow found in a field near Doncaster.

The discovery comes after officers seized £3000 worth of class A drugs from a single property earlier this week.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Detective Inspector Scott Szymczak said:

“My team constantly look for opportunities to disrupt organised crime across Rotherham, particularly around the distribution of drugs which often has links to violent crime.

“Residents across the town continuously tell us that they want to see us taking action to tackle drugs, and I would like to assure people that we do act on any information passed to us.

“On this occasion, a quantity of suspected class A with an estimated street value of £3,000 has been taken off our streets which is an excellent result.

“I encourage anyone with concerns about drugs supply to get in touch either via 101, via their local neighbourhood team, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously.”
