New homes for Hull’s council residents

A major housing growth programme led by Hull City Council for the city’s council residents is currently underway.

445 new council homes have been built since 2015, with an additional 480 planned over the next five years, according to a council spokesperson.

The scheme will see new homes builtincludes homes in Beckington Close and Plym Grove, Longhill.

In these areas, nine modern new bungalows will be available to rent from the council are being built by Hull-based Houlton.

The project is partially funded by the Humber LEP’s local growth fund.

The new builds will replace substandard housing in neighbourhoods such as Mildane, Portobello Street and Ganstead Grove.

Most of the homes will be built on smaller sites, making them more accessible for local building trades businesses.

Councillor John Black, Hull City Council portfolio holder for housing said:

“Developing bungalows is an important element of our housing strategy.

“All the new build bungalows meet high specification accessibility standards, which suit the needs of older tenants who may be becoming a little less mobile.”
