Travel deal for Scunthorpe students

North Lincolnshire Council have announced a new discounted travel deal for college students in Scunthorpe and the surrounding areas.

Students will now be able to travel to and from college for only 50p a day using a new grant which is paid termly to colleges.

North Lincolnshire Council’s funding per pupil is £315 a year.

Bus operators have now offered discounted rates to students from across the area, with colleges also making a contribution.

To apply for the grant, students should contact the college or sixth form at which they are studying.

Councillor Julie Reed, cabinet member for connectivity, said:

“Really pleased to be able to support our young people in being able to access the fantastic further education opportunities available to them with the funding.

“Working together with the colleges and the transport providers has meant we are able to ensure that affordable travel is available to ensure our young people, particularly those in the rural communities, are able to get to and from college.”

Mick Lochran, principal, North Lindsey College, added:

“We are really happy that the partnership between North Lincolnshire Council and the colleges continues to offer students an affordable and flexible transport offer for young adults.”
