Grimsby Town FC have signed Nottingham Forest Under 23 full-back, Danny Preston.

He joins the club on a season-long loan deal.

Having signed 32-year-old former Swindon Town midfielder Danny Rose earlier this week, the club have now also acquired winger Sean Scannell on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old left League One side Blackpool earlier this summer, having started his career with Crystal Palace.

Scannell has also spent time at Huddersfield Town and Bradford City.

He told the Grimsby Town FC website:

“I’ve known Ollie for a few years now and to play for a manager like Ollie is all that I’ve wanted for. As soon as I spoke to him I wanted to come straight away.

“I’m a winger, but I like to play anywhere – left, right, number 10, I’ve even played up front a few times as well. I just like to get at players.”

Danny Rose added:

“I jumped at the chance to work with Ian Holloway, as a lot of players would.

“After we had those chats my mind was made up, that’s what I wanted to do.

“I think I will bring quite a bit of experience to the team, I know the league well. I’ve had a bit of success at this level too, hopefully, I can bring that element to our play, bring a bit of composure to our play.”

Meanwhile, Grimsby Town’s Jacke Hessenthaler has been signed by Crawley Town on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old midfielder has agreed a two-year contract.

Grimsby Town FC will begin the new season with two home EFL Trophy ties, against Morecambe on Saturday and then Harrogate, on 8 September.
