Collision on Humber Bridge

A spokesperson for the Humber Bridge has asked motorists to avoid the area following a crash involving a lorry and several cars.

The accident happened at around 4.45pm.

The northbound carriageway is affected, and the bridge is currently closed with traffic backed up as far as Barton.

Emergency services are currently on the scene.

Humber Bridge News reported the incident via social media, stating:

“There’s an ongoing incident on the bridge, northbound and traffic is backed up to Barton.

“Emergency services are at the scene.

“Avoid the area for now.”

According to witnesses two accidents have occurred on the bridge, with one allegedly involving a lorry colliding with multiple cars.

After learning that his wife was involved in the accident on the Humber Bridge, Radio Humberside presenter Andy Comfort told listeners:

“I understand a lorry failed to stop as traffic queued onto the bridge from the Barton slipway and went into a number of cars.

“I have been on the phone to my wife who was involved with the kids in the car.

“Thankfully, they are fine but are shaken up.

“It appears the driver of the lorry may have had a medical episode.”

One motorist added:

“Barton town centre is absolutely gridlocked.

“Police have closed the slip road even though traffic can get past the accident”

According to Humberside Police, no serious injuries have been reported.
