Confirmed coronavirus case at another Scunthorpe school

Another school in Scunthorpe has confirmed a new case of coronavirus, and announced self-isolation measures for all affected individuals.

According to a letter sent to parents, a member of staff at Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue has tested positive.

The individual has been in contact with a number of other staff members, who have now been instructed to self-isolate.

However, as the member of staff has not been in close proximity to any students, the school has been advised by Public Health England that no students need to take action.

It is understood that affected members of staff will be permitted to work from home.

A letter regarding the current situation reads:

“I am writing to inform you that a member of staff at school has tested positive for coronavirus. As a precaution and following the medical advice from the government, we have asked any staff members who had close contact to self-isolate at home.

“As the staff member has had no close contact with children in school, we have been advised by both the DFE and Public Health officials that there is no risk to the children or other staff and that no other precautionary measures need to be taken at this time.

“Whilst I understand that you will be concerned to hear this news, please can I reassure you that we are able to maintain live teaching in classes via IT links, so any staff absence will not affect your children’s education.”

An earlier statement issued by the school urged parents not to misuse the testing system,

It stated that “no one else in the same class or bubble as the symptomatic person needs to take any action unless advised by the school,” instead, simply advising self-isolation.
