Scunthorpe school announces second Covid case

A Scunthorpe infants school has confirmed its second Covid-19 case in two weeks.

Enderby Road Infants School wrote to parents on Monday, informing them of the second confirmed case, and instructing a number of children to self-isolate.

All other students are expected to continue attending as normal.

The first case was identified on September 22.

On Monday, following this most recent case, Headteacher Mrs Goulthorpe issued a letter to parents. It reads:

“We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

“We know that you may find this concerning but are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

“This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

“The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case have been contacted and will be staying at home for 14 days. PHE advice says that all others not in direct contact with the individual should continue to attend school.

“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well. Staff continue to ensure safety measures are in place.”

It is currently unknown whether the person who tested positive is a member of staff or a pupil.

Staff and the parents of children who have been in direct contact with the individual have been notified directly, and will be required to isolate for 14 days.

The number of confirmed cases in North Lincolnshire is rising rapidly, with 1073 people affected since the pandemic began.
