Scunthorpe’s Frankie & Benny’s is set to close next month, amid speculation that the site will be converted into two drive-thru restaurants.

The branch is sadly closing due to ongoing difficulties within the industry, which have been exacerbated by the impact of the recent lockdown.

The Doncaster Road restaurant is among 125 other branches to be closed this year.

Sadly, this has resulted in the loss of around 3000 jobs nationwide.

A spokesman for Frankie and Benny’s said:

“The casual dining sector has faced enormous, well documented pressures which have been exacerbated by Covid-19 and the lockdown.

“Unfortunately, we have had to take difficult but necessary decisions to ensure a sustainable future for our business.

“We have been in close contact with affected colleagues throughout this process and we are doing all we can to support them during this time.”

Plans have been submitted to convert the Doncaster Road restaurant into a drive-thru Taco Bell and a Burger King.

If approved, the new development would create at least 25 part-time and 25 full-time jobs.

According to the planning application, the drive-thrus “will add to the choice of food available at the Gallagher Retail Park/North Lincolnshire Shopping Park and cater for the needs of consumers who would already be present.”

The application is currently awaiting consideration by North Lincolnshire Council.
