Scunthorpe United FC have identified a positive case of coronavirus, as the club confirms manager Neil Cox has gone into isolation.

He is alleged to be asymptomatic, but a player with whom he has had close contact has tested positive.

Assistant manager Mark Lillis is also awaiting test results.

As such, neither Cox nor Lillis will be in attendance at Tuesday evening’s away match versus Cheltenham Town.

In their absence under-23s manager Russ Wilcox will take charge this evening.

The statement issued by the club this afternoon reads:

“Normally we’d receive the test results within 24-to-48 hours, but because of a backlog in that process the club has been told it may be a wait of up to five days.

“Under-23s manager Russ Wilcox will take the team until Neil and Mark are able to return to their duties.

“Meanwhile, one of our players has tested positive for COVID-19. We ask that their request for privacy and confidentiality are respected at this time.

“Due to coming into close contact with that player, another member of the squad will also have to self-isolate.”

The update was issued just hours before this evening’s game.
