Free parking in Grimsby and Cleethorpes over Christmas

Shoppers in Grimsby and Cleethorpes will benefit from free parking in Grimsby’s Abbey Walk car park and High Street car park in Cleethorpes from tomorrow, Friday the 11th of December, for the remainder of the month.

North East Lincolnshire Council and partner, ENGIE, are offering the free parking as an incentive to support local businesses and the economy as non-essential shops reopen.

Shoppers will be able to benefit from the free parking from 1pm onwards each day, with no ticket required to be displayed.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said:

“Shopping local has never been more important as our local businesses continue their recovery from COVID-19, and we are keen to support them”.

“In providing free parking, we hope to see people returning to the high street to support local businesses”.

“But this must be done in a safe manner”.

“Please follow Government guidance, shop safely and remember the basics – wash hands, cover face, and make space”.

“We all have a part to play in reducing the spread of the virus to keep ourselves and those around us safe”.

Abbey Walk Car Park will extend its opening hours until 9pm, Monday to Saturday, until Wednesday the 23rd December to support the extended trading hours of Freshney Place.

Free parking from 1pm onwards will continue until the end of December.

The car park will also open on Sundays between the hours of 1pm and 6pm offering free parking.

Normal pay and display will be required from car park opening times until 1pm.
