Local Councillor sets up food parcel service
Councillor Oliver Freeston, has set up a food delivery service for the elderly and most vulnerable people in our area.

Oliver Freeston, councillor of Croft Baker ward, is worried that the issues surrounding Free School Meals are leaving the elderly population at risk of missing out on vital services.
Cllr Freeston got the idea of helping those most vulnerable after hearing about the free school meals ‘debacle’.
He said: “I was just concerned that I had heard little about the elderly that will also be suffering from food poverty, potentially made worse as they may also be unable to even get out of the house or be unaware of support available to them.”
“I decided I would do something about it and be proactive. My motto is if I help 20 people then that’s 20 more than if I had done nothing.“
Shielding members of the community such as the elderly and vulnerable are not able to leave home due to health reasons therefore unable to travel to the supermarkets where there would be a higher risk of infection.
During the pandemic it is key to support anyone who may need it from friends and family to neighbours.
Cllr Freeston added: “It’s vital that we support our elderly population as they are the ones who made this country what it is. They are the people who I feel deserve extra special treatment.”
He said for now this will be what his focus will remain on for the near future but is hoping others will ‘follow suit’ and ‘do their bit’.
