Quarantine hotels comes into force today

UK nationals or residents returning from any country on the government’s travel ban list will be required to stay in a quarantine hotel for 10 nights.

Ministers are set to review England’s current lockdown, as hotel quarantine rules for travellers from “red list” countries come into force today.

Boris Johnson, will start considering this week how restrictions in England may be eased ahead of a statement on 22 February setting out his “roadmap” out of lockdown.

The prime minister has received pressure from MPs to “hurry along” easing lockdown for fears the economy will not be able to recover.

The new hotel quarantine measures apply to anyone who has been in or through a “red list” country in the past 10 days.

Passengers on board the plane are separated from other passengers at passport control, where security picks them up.

They are escorted as a group to pick up their luggage where security then brings them out through the arrivals hall to leave the terminal building and board a bus.

Buses will take them to a quarantine hotel for 10 nights at a cost of £1,750 where they cannot leave their room until after the stated time.

Passengers will have to take a Covid test before being allowed to leave after the 10 days to show they are not positive.
