Building work is now underway on a new decked car park off the Church Lane entrance to Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The lower deck of the two-storey car park will be used for public car parking, while the upper deck is reserved for staff.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust have requested that patients and visitors make use of public transport, including the hospital’s park and ride scheme.

“We appreciate that this won’t be possible for everyone but by making alternative arrangements if you can, this will help us make sure priority is given to those who really need it,” added a spokesperson.
“If you do need to come by car, the remaining public car parking spaces are next to the maternity unit, off Church Ln and our outpatients’ building off Cliff Gardens.
“We apologise for the disruption whilst the work is being done but we hope you agree that it will be worth it in the end.”

The trust have now release a sneak-peak of the new structure, which is part of a new multi-million pound redevelopment project funded by the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England.

North Lincolnshire Council granted permission for the development to begin in March.

The car park is expected to be finished by July, with construction beginning on a new A&E department shortly after.

Existing outbuildings will also receive extensive refurbishment works.
