Free rapid Covid-19 tests made available to everyone in North East Lincolnshire

As of yesterday, everyone in North East Lincolnshire now has access to free, rapid Covid-19 tests.

The Government announced earlier this week that twice-weekly testing would be offered to everyone in the UK.

The rapid Covid-19 tests will be available to take at various testing sites across the borough, or to collect and carry out at home. The tests provide a result in as little as 30 minutes.

The tests are crucial in detecting Covid-19 in people who are not showing any symptoms of the virus. It’s estimated that around one in three people who have the virus are asymptomatic.

A statement from North East Lincolnshire Council reads: “The tests have been vital in identifying positive cases early, allowing them to self-isolate and reduce the spread of the virus.”

Students at secondary schools and colleges in North East Lincolnshire are being provided with testing kits by their education provider. Their families, and staff members of the schools and colleges, are also being offered the kits.

Thousands of employers are offering the rapid Covid-19 tests for their employees in the workplace.

Business with more than 10 employees still have until Monday 12 April to apply for the kits. Businesses with fewer than 10 employees can arrange for them to collect the testing kits from their local testing site.

In North East Lincolnshire, there are three sites offering the free rapid Covid-19 tests and the home testing kit collection service. These are at Grimsby Town Hall, the Knoll in Cleethorpes and Immingham Civic Centre.
