Filipe Morais and Stefan Payne “won’t play again” for Grimsby Town FC

GTFC players Filipe Morais and Stefan Payne will not play for the club again, it has been confirmed.

Just before half-time in the 1-0 defeat at Bradford last Saturday, Payne, 29, was sent off for headbutting Morais, 35.

Grimsby Town FC boss Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside: “As a club we’ve dealt with the situation. They’re both contracted to the football club but neither of them will play a part moving forward.

“Felipe wasn’t going to be in my plans moving forward and that’s a decision that’s been accelerated with the events last weekend. I think everyone’s entitled to an opinion but, a bit like when you’re picking a team, all I can say is I’m here day to day and you see and hear a lot more things than what fans do, so I trust in my opinion and views and we move forward.”

When asked if the players had apologised to him for the incident, Hurst said they had not.

“As you can imagine I was extremely disappointed with the situation and it’s now been dealt with,” he said.

“Football is what it is and there’s different ways to do things. I think ultimately the situation has been dealt with and we’ve put it to bed and want to concentrate on the players that are here and in my plan.”
