Male in custody after sexual offence in Atkinsons Warren

A male is now in police custody after a sexual offence in Atkinsons Warren woods on Thursday 22 April.

It was reported that the woman was walking her dog when she was approached by an unknown man when she was sexual assaulted, the man then proceeded to expose himself.
Humberside Police said ‘we are appealing for witnesses to a reported sexual assault which is believed to have happened on Atkinsons Warren, Ferry Road, Scunthorpe, near to Phoenix Parkway at approximately 9:30am on Thursday 22 April.
‘The man has been described as white, approximately 5ft10 of a slim build with short brown hair. He was wearing a black coloured sweatshirt and black lycra style trousers and is believed to be in his 20’s.
‘We are asking for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious around this time or if you have information about the incident that could assist us, including dashcam footage to contact us by calling our non-emergency number 101 quoting 16/43303/21’

Humberside police have since released another statement saying ‘we asked for help in locating a male for a sexual offence on Atkinsons Warren, we now have a male in custody helping us with our enquires. Thank you for your help and support.’

According to the Office for National Statistics, a crime survey for England and Wales, showed an estimated 1.8% of adults aged 16 to 74 years experienced sexual assault (including attempts) in the last year.

Approximately 85,000 women and 12,000 men (aged 16 – 59) experience rape, attempted rape or sexual assault by penetration in England and Wales alone every year; that’s roughly 11 of the most serious sexual offences (of adults alone) every hour.
