93-year-old lifelong Grimsby Town FC fan awarded free season ticket by Jason Stockwood
A 93-year-old lifelong fan and season ticket holder of Grimsby Town FC has been awarded a free season ticket by Jason Stockwood, one half of the duo who has famously taken over the club.
This comes after Daphne won Coral’s monthly Football Fan of the Year competition.
She was chosen by football legend Alan Shearer to win the £1,000 cash prize for May, after he was impressed by her and her dedication to the club, having watched “hundreds” of Town matches over the years.
“You get to know all these people that sit near you and we’re all tapping on each other’s shoulder saying: ‘What do you think to that?'” she told a representative of Coral.
Daphne, who travels via coach to away matches, said when asked how she will spend her prize money: “The coaches now have gone sky-high with prices, so I’d like a lot of that to go to them.”
Alan Shearer is also responsible for choosing from a list of the monthly winners to win the £10,000 cash prize for the ultimate Football Fan of the Year.
This will be decided at the end of the season.
Alan himself appeared via FaceTime to congratulate Daphne on her £1,000 win, in a video released by Coral. He told her: “We loved your entry. You’ve shown us all what it means to support your team for a lifetime. Grimsby are very, very lucky to have you.”
New Grimsby Town FC owner Jason Stockwood then took to Twitter to praise Daphne, calling her support “incredible”.
He tweeted: “Amazing support. Can someone let Daphne know to get in touch. Her support is incredible and very much appreciated. Next season is on us.”
