Drivers wreak ‘havoc’ in Doncaster car park
Drivers wreaked ‘havoc’ on Saturday evening after dozens gathered to attend a car meet in Doncaster, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Officers say those involved were seen driving around “like fools” – the incident resulted in a collision, and forced a nearby shop to close early.
It comes after the force warned that it would take the strongest action against offending drivers.
One resident said that a convoy of around 40 cars tailgating one another had overtaken him on the M18 prior to the incident.
“Doesn’t make sense,” he added.
“They were doing over 100 mph, it only took one to brake and the convoy would have been a multiple pile up. That’s not even considerate driving to their mates.”
Writing on social media, on Saturday evening the force reiterated its message. A spokesperson said:
“Despite tonight’s persistent rain, car enthusiasts from all over have attended in Doncaster to show off their cars to each other.
“Not satisfied with just looking at each others cars, they’ve decided they would drive around like fools and cause havoc causing a collision and a shop, which was still open, to close early due to the car park being used by them antisocially.
“This sort of behaviour causes us to become rather annoyed as despite enjoying all things motorised ourselves, we don’t take kindly to the disruption caused by the antisocial behaviour and disregard for others’ safety.”
