Oasis Academy Wintringham staff embark on 24-hour run for charity

Staff at the Oasis Academy Wintringham school took part in a 24-hour run and midnight walk on Friday to raise money for several charities and this year’s prom for Year 11 students.

Over 30 staff members embarked on the challenge, in which each participant pledged a set amount of time to complete their allotted run or walk.

The charities which are receiving funds raised from the challenge are St. Andrew’s Hospice, the Rock Foundation, Wish Upon a Star and Oasis Hub.

Associate Assistant Principal for Sport and Health, Steven Broderick, who ran from 2am until 4am, said: “Last year it was heartbreaking to see the Year 11’s leave without a proper goodbye. We all agreed we were determined, if restrictions allowed, to give this year’s leavers the goodbye they deserve.

“Our students and their families have been amazing in their response to the events of the past year and we have all worked hard together to provide the best education and support possible.

“With this event, staff wanted to show the students by raising the money themselves how much we value their efforts.

“Unfortunately, events that would raise money for our four charities through inter-house competitions and own clothes days have not been able to happen. As a school, we also wanted to do what we could to at least raise something towards them.

“I was bowled over with the number of staff that signed up. Now it’s over, we have a few sore staff members but the overriding emotion is pride that we managed to have someone running for the full 24 hours.

“The staff here have always been known for going the extra mile. It’s what we do at Oasis Academy Wintringham.”

The run was started and finished by the Vice Principal, Mr Scott. Students gathered to clap for him as he returned to the school, marking the end of the 24-hour run.
