Man jailed after Doncaster burglaries

A man has been handed a prison sentence of over three years for a burglary in Doncaster, after he was identified by his victims.

Steven Hudson, 59, formerly of Windsor Road, Doncaster, was sentenced to three years and four months behind bars.

He was accused of breaking in and stealing from a couple in the early hours of Friday 28 June 2019.

At 4.50am, Hudson gained access to a property in Windsor Road, Doncaster by breaking the lock on a front window.

He and his accomplice, an unknown woman, were disturbed after the couple overheard them and came downstairs.

One of the victims confronted Hudson, who head-butted him before leaving with a TV and some other electrical items.

DC Jane Keightley, of South Yorkshire Police, said:

“Both offenders were captured on the couple’s home CCTV.

“Three months later, in September, the couple witnessed Hudson walking nearby, along Windsor Road.

“After reporting the sightings to us, we were able to apprehend Hudson at his home address on 10 October that year.

“He was later formally identified by the couple as the perpetrator.

“Burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime and I am pleased with the sentence passed.

“I can’t imagine how frightening this incident must have been and I would like to thank both victims for their support and patience throughout this investigation.”

Hudson pleaded guilty to one count of burglary at Sheffield Crown Court.

He was jailed on Thursday 13 May.
