Greens Way flyover closes due to ‘structural concerns’

The Greens Way flyover in Mexborough has been forced to close following a routine inspection by Doncaster Council’s bridges team.

During the inspection, several ‘structural concerns’ were identified, leading to urgent structural surveys and assessments.

A spokesperson for the council said:

“This important work is continuing and until we have the results back and have then considered the potential options, the bridge needs to remain closed for safety reasons.”

The flyover is expected to remain closed for up to 18 months.

The main A6023 Greens Way remains open in both directions and is safe to use.

A diversion into Mexborough town centre has been put in place, and requires users of Leach Lane, Market Street, Church Street and Quarry Street have to access the A6023 via the east end roundabout.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this road closure will cause, but safety is our main concern,” added the council.

“We will continue to keep you updated with progress, including when it is safe for us to reopen the flyover.”
