Art in the Market remains with Top Town Market for another year
Grimsby Top Town Market has announced that the triumphant Art in the Market project will continue running for a further year.
The project is managed by Our Big Picture and North East Lincolnshire Council alongside ENGIE and is funded by the National Lottery, Arts Council England.
The programme worked with both local and national artists as well as arts organisations in order to celebrate the arts (art, music, crafts and more).
Our Big Picture will resume working alongside Art in the Market’s resident artist, Anna Bean (aka bluebeany).
Over 3,100 locals have made creations with the project from 2018 to 2020.
They held a variety of different events for all ages, such as pop-up exhibitions and teenage makers fairs.
Their most recent workshop encouraged over 50 children and youths to create figures of underwater and endangered species to celebrate the recent Festival of the Sea.
Councillor Stan Shreeve, portfolio holder for finance, resources and assets, said: “With workshops, music and exhibitions being announced soon, these [projects] will give a new dimension to the existing market and the wide variety of local traders and fantastic local produce available on the market.”
Paula Denton from Our Big Picture added: “It’s been a challenging time for those in the arts and continues to be.
“It is brilliant to be back in the buzz of the market and our community there.
“We are really looking forward to celebrating and showcasing the amazing local talent and enable everyone to take part in, experience, and enjoy art at its best.”
Their upcoming programme, which aims to support emerging artists aged nine to 24-years-old, is called Imaginarium.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn new skills, sell their creations and meet young, upcoming art entrepreneurs.
An Imaginarium shop will feature in Our Big Pictures’ studio pod on Grimsby Top Town Market, set to open this month.
