Serious crash on A1(M) near Doncaster causes delays
A serious crash reportedly occurred on the A1(M) this afternoon on the northbound carriageway at Junction 35 for Wadworth, near Doncaster.
Drivers faced queues of up to six miles long as traffic was delayed for over an hour while the road was being cleared by road traffic officers.
An ‘up and over’ closure was put in place during that time with traffic being diverted off the motorway via an exit slip road before they were directed back onto their original course further down the A1(M).
At the time, traffic management system Inrix said: “One lane closed, queuing traffic and delays due to [an] earlier accident on A1(M) Northbound at J35 (M18 Interchange). Travel time is 30 minutes.
“Lane one (of two) remains closed after traffic was held for around an hour following an earlier accident.”
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said:
“We were called today (6 September) at 12.02pm to reports of a two-vehicle collision at junction 35 of the A1(M).
“Emergency services attended and officers remained at the scene to assist with vehicle recovery.”
By 6:00pm, all lanes had reopened on the A1(M) and the queues eventually dwindled down as traffic returned to normal.
