Full Council approval of Local Plan sets Doncaster’s future

Doncaster’s Local Plan, which will benefit residents, the economy and the environment tremendously up to and beyond the year 2035, has received approval from the Full Council after being in development for the past seven years.

Doncaster Council has released updates on their Local Plan which will benefit and tackle a range of different issues for current and future generations.

These issues include: the environment and natural habitats, sustainable travel, road and rail projects, town centres, historic buildings/areas, schools, better quality jobs, new and affordable homes, the disabled and the community’s health and well-being up to the year 2035 and beyond.

The Plan aims to boost the town’s economy through pinpointing the best locations for new homes and developments that can be build in a sustainable way.

More than 920 houses are set to be built every year to conquer homelessness and meet the needs of elderly and disabled people.

The natural environment and climate change will also be benefitted by the plans.

99% of the Green Belt will be protected, encouraging nature and biodiversity to flourish in the town’s countryside.

Cllr Nigel Ball, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Leisure, Culture and Planning, said: “This is a momentous milestone for the future of our borough and everyone who calls Doncaster home.

“It’s much more than an important planning policy document though.

“It sets out the direction we are heading and helps us deliver our ambitions to make Doncaster a wonderful place to live and experience.

“[It is a] borough that can fulfil its huge potential, creating a place residents are proud of and other areas look at with envy.”

He added: “The Local Plan enables us to grow our economy in a sustainable way and provide everything residents need to enjoy living in our borough.

“It positively plans for new roads and other infrastructure to secure new development and enhance how we move around and access our communities.”

The plans will be reviewed every five years to make sure it is up to date with regard to current circumstances.
