Grimsby GP hits out over extra pressure

A Grimsby GP has hit out over the extra pressure this December following the booster vaccination programme being brought forward by a month.

Dr Nathalie Dukes told BBC Radio Humberside that the government has ‘left [GP’s] hanging out to dry’ as she and her team face busy December pressures.

She said that GP’s helping out with the booster vaccine and a lack of available staff is having a big impact on doctors’ surgeries.

Dr Dukes has previously spoken out about Covid measures, posting a video back in March 2020 encouraging the public to follow lockdown rules to protect the NHS.

The Prime Minister recently announced that all adults of the age of 18 will receive their booster jab by the end of December, a month earlier than the previous January target.

In a press conference held on 30 November, Mr Johnson declared that it is ‘time for another great British vaccination effort’ as Omicron cases increase across the UK.

Jabs will be rolled out at 1,500 community pharmacy sites and extra hospital hubs sites across the country, while mobile vaccination hubs will be “popping up like Christmas trees.”

There will also be over 3,000 sites around the country able to give the vaccine, more than double the number open in February.

Work from home orders and mandatory face masks in public settings were also introduced last week in a bid to curb transmission rates after Omicron was discovered in the UK.
