Recap after lorry fire closes M180
Parts of the M180, A180 and A15 were closed for several hours yesterday after a lorry caught alight on the M180.
Traffic was halted for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, which occured at around 17:40.
The road reopened allowing traffic to return to normal at around 19:00.
Although the police did not reveal the nature of the incident until much later, witnesses reported seeing a lorry trailer on fire between the exits for Barnetby Top and Scunthorpe.
Residents as far as Scawby Brook reported seeing flames and smoke and hearing ‘explosions’.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Please be aware emergency services are currently dealing with an incident on the M180 approaching junction 4 .
“We have currently closed the A15 and A180 heading towards the M180, and eastbound between junction 3 and 4 on the M180.”
A National Highways spokesperson later added: “The M180 in North Lincolnshire is closed westbound between J5 (Barnetby Interchange) and J4 (for the #A15 towards #Lincoln) due to a lorry fire.”
Police have yet to release details confirming whether anybody was injured as a result of the incident.
