Grimsby man charged over Boxing Day arson attack

A man from Grimsby has been charged over a suspected arson attack that took place on Boxing Day.

Savastel Balaci set fire to a property on Elsenham Road, Grimsby on 26 December while people slept inside.

Mr Balaci of Bridge Gardens has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, two counts of sending malicious communications, and one count of stalking.

He appeared at Grimsby Magistrates Court the next day before being remanded into custody to await further hearings.

Humberside Police said: “A 34-year-old man has been charged following a suspected arson at a property on Elsenham Road, Grimsby last month.

“Savastel Balaci, of Bridge Gardens, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, two counts of sending malicious communications, and one count of stalking.

“He appeared at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Monday 27 December and was remanded in custody awaiting further hearings.

“On Sunday 26 December 2021, emergency services were called to a fire at a residential property.

“A number of people were inside the address at the time. Whilst they were not physically injured by the fire they have been left shaken by the incident and are receiving support from our officers.”
