Game announces Grimsby store closure date
Last week, staff at the Grimsby branch of Game announced that the store was closing in another devastating blow for Freshney Place.
Now, the company have confirmed that the store will be closing for good this weekend, on Sunday the 6th of February.
A spokesperson said: “With our deepest regrets, GAME Grimsby will close on February 6.
“You can continue shopping with GAME online or in other stores.
“To all our loyal customers, we will miss you. Goodbye from Shane, Matt, Aaron, Craig, and Stephen.”
The news comes just days after Freshney Place was been placed into receivership following a string of financial difficulties.
The centre is expected to remain open as usual for the time being.
A spokesperson for former owners Capreon said: “We can confirm that Cushman & Wakefield were appointed as Fixed Charged Receivers over Freshney Place Shopping Centre on January 18, 2022.
“Capreon has been retained by the Receivers to continue their role as asset managers for the shopping centre which will remain open for trading as normal.”
Locals have responded with frustration following the announcement that another major store is set to depart the area.
One local said: “Another one?! Something needs to be done to stop this happening.”
“They might as well close Freshney Place there’s that many empty shops,” added another.
North East Lincolnshire Council say they are still pushing ahead with plans for a new cinema and market hall in Grimsby town centre.
Updates to follow.
