Grimsby Para-Athlete breaks British record

Grimsby Para-Athlete and Grimsby Carpet Warehouse brand ambassador, Zac Shaw has broken the British indoor 60m sprint.

The 26-year-old, visually impaired sprinter competed live on the BBC, breaking a British record and taking home $2500.

After his triumph victory, Zac took to his social media platforms to express his feelings.

He said: “Yesterday was such a huge day for Para-athletics”

Zac added that this is the first time since he began competing that he has seen mixed events integrated into the ‘main’ schedule and offered equal prize money at IAAF events.

“We appreciate these opportunities so much, it’s what we grew up dreaming of,” he continued.
“We commit our whole lives to the sport and train alongside Olympic athletes, but for too long we’ve been getting no equality at competitions with no chance of prize money.
“Lots of para-athletes (including myself) can’t get agents, sponsors, or kit deals due to the lack of pay and media exposure.
“Yesterday was a huge milestone for everyone in the sport, whether you were competing or not. This has to be the standard for future competitions.”
A spokesperson for Grimsby Carpet Warehouse wrote: “So proud to call you our brand ambassador Zac Shaw. Keep doing your town and country proud.”
