Council to ‘decorate’ Sea Road hoardings as development paused

A North East Lincolnshire Council official has disclosed plans to decorate the hoardings surrounding the vacant Sea Road development site in Cleethorpes.

This follows controversy after the revelation that £1m in funding intended for the redevelopment of the site was spent on demolishing the former Waves nightclub and improving nearby footpaths.

The site has remained empty since.

Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council said: “As you’re aware, we’re just completing the Cleethorpes Masterplanning work, which has had more than 2,700 people tell us what they want to see in Cleethorpes in the future, including opinions about this site.”

“This is a key site in a prime location in Cleethorpes and work is continuing in the background to find the best use for the site which is being proactively marketed through commercial agents.”

A “national marketing campaign” is said to be underway to find an operator for a “planned new multi-functional building.”

A council representative has confirmed plans to carry out a “soft market” test to find out what will best suit the site.

The council is also set to release a ‘Cleethorpes Masterplan’, which is expected to include redevelopment plans for much of the North Promenade.

In the meantime, the council has confirmed plans to replace and redecorate the hoardings around the Sea Road site in order to ‘improve’ the overall appearance of the area.

When asked how much the new hoardings were expected to cost, the council told Gi Grimsby News they were “just out for quotes at the moment.”

Updates to follow.
