Pub landlord drives minibus full of supplies to Ukraine
A pub landlord has arrived in Ukraine after driving a minibus full of supplies from the UK.
Tom Littledyke, 31, from Lyme Regis in Dorest has driven a 16-seat minibus full of aid to the Ukraine-Poland boarder.
Littledyke, an ex-Royal Marine decided to make the 1,000 mile journey after seeing heartbreaking images of children and families devastated by the Russian invasion.
The ex-Royal Marine packed his minibus full of essential supplies, including blankets, pillows and toys for children.
After he dropped the supplies at the boarder, he said he made the “terrifying” journey into Lviv, Ukraine where he will use the minibus to ‘ferry’ people to the Polish border.
He told BBC Radio Solent the roads were “littered with abandoned vehicles and personal belongings”
He described the drive as “eerily terrifying”
“The plan wasn’t to come into the Ukraine but at midnight I met some reporters on the border in Poland and they gave me some useful tips”
“…[they] told me about a train station where people needed to be ferried to and from the border. So I made the decision to pop over”, he added
According to the BBC, Mr Littledyke plans to return to Dorset on Friday after he donated blankets, sleeping bags and teddy bears after a successful social media appeal.
The ex-Royal Marine set up a fundraising page with a target of £1,000 which garnered more than £7,500.
He told the BBC he was “inspired” to make the journey after the success of the fundraiser.
The pub landlord said: “I’m inspired by how inspired people have been to make this happen”
