Swiss billionaire linked to Chelsea buyout rumours
A Swiss billionaire has claimed he has been offered the opportunity to purchase Chelsea Football Club.
Sky News has reported, 86-year-old Hansjorg Wyss has been ‘offered’ the chance to buy the club from Russian-Israeli billion Roman Abramovich.
Mr Wyss has said he would only buy the club as part of a consortium.
The report follows the news that Abramovich would relinquish stewardship of Premier League giants after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
It is understood that Abramovich wishes to retain ownership of Chelsea, a club that he has owned since 2003.
If the UK government imposed financial sanctions in retaliation for the Ukrainian conflict, it could prove ‘impossible’ for Abramovich.
Speaking to Swiss paper, Blick, Mr Wyss said: “Abramovich is trying to sell all his villas in England, he also wants to get rid of Chelsea quickly”
“I and three other people received an offer on Tuesday to buy Chelsea from Abramovich”, he added.
“If I buy Chelsea, then with a consortium consisting of six to seven investors.”
Sky News understands “Chelsea is not for sale”
Sky News have approached representatives at Chelsea and on behalf of Abramovich for a statement.
