£833k spent on Sea Road ‘improvements’

£833,000 was spent on improvements on Sea Road, Cleethorpes, according to a breakdown issued by North East Lincolnshire Council.

In 2019 the council received a £1m grant via the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership, which was allocated for the regeneration of Cleethorpes.

The authority has since confirmed that the grant has been spent on the demolishing the former Waves nightclub and clearing the site ready for a new build.

A spokesperson added that “the money has also funded changes to the footpaths on Sea Road to make them wider, safer, and more attractive for pedestrians.”

Now, a breakdown has revealed that a total of £833,000 was spent on improvements including the new footpaths.

According to NELC, the grant had to be spent by the end of March 2021.

A spokesperson said: “Around £167,000 was spent on the demolition of the former Waves building and site clearance.

“The remainder of the funding was spent on the Sea Road improvements – footpaths, road layout etc.”

Plans to replace and redecorate the hoardings around the Sea Road site to ‘improve’ the overall appearance of the area have also been confirmed.

When asked how much the new hoardings were expected to cost, a council representative told Gi Grimsby News they were “just out for quotes at the moment.”
