Popular LGBT+ nightclub closes
A popular LGBT+ nightclub in Cleethropes has closed.
Silhouette, an LGBT+ nightclub on Alexandra Road appears to have closed.
It is understood that Silhouette’s sister restaurant, Relish has also shut its doors.
Silhouette had recently been banned from playing music after 11pm after significant noise complaints were made against the establishment.
Neighbours living near the nightclub claim the music’s volume was ‘unbearable’.
The Lincolnite has reported residents could not hear their TV’s over the music.
During a review of the venues license, North East Lincolnshire Council had been told the noise could continue into the early hours.
Subsequently, Silhouette were met with a ban on playing music after 11pm.
Silhouette and Relish owner, Sean Desouza told councillors at a hearing in February he was unaware of any problems caused by the music, and the business ‘relied’ on its music license.
Noise complaints against the nightclub have now been investigated three times.
Speaking to the licensing committee, Sean said: “Whenever I got a letter, I always picked up a phone and spoke to the council”
“No residents have ever spoken to me about it”, he added.
“Silhouette isn’t louder than any of the other clubs in the area – we’re just in a different location”
During the hearing, recordings taken from inside neighbouring flats were played which evidenced “audible” music and a PA system.
Labelling the noise pollution as “intolerable,” Michael Kheng who represented six residents added:
“Given the pandemic and refurbishments, this club has effectively only operated for 12 months over the last three years, and has had noise machines fitted in surrounding homes by the council three times. This is clearly very excessive,”
“People are at their wits’ end, having to go to their friends and family at the weekend. They can’t sit at home and watch TV. It’s become unbearable.”
According to the Lincolnite, Mr Desouza would appeal the ruling.
Facebook profiles for Relish and Silhouette have since vanished.
What do you think to Silhouette’s closure?
