Costs ‘unavailable’ as Sea Road hoardings set for redesign
North East Lincolnshire Council have responded to questions regarding plans to decorate the hoardings surrounding the vacant Sea Road development site in Cleethorpes, stating that costs are ‘unavailable’.
This follows controversy after the revelation that £1m in funding intended for the redevelopment of the site was spent on demolishing the former Waves nightclub and improving nearby footpaths.
The site has remained empty since.
The council have since confirmed that the site which is currently vacant and surrounded by unsightly hoardings and fences is set to be spruced up with new hoardings in the coming months.
But currently, there are no concrete construction plans for the site itself.
Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council said: “As you’re aware, we’re just completing the Cleethorpes Masterplanning work, which has had more than 2,700 people tell us what they want to see in Cleethorpes in the future, including opinions about this site.”
“This is a key site in a prime location in Cleethorpes and work is continuing in the background to find the best use for the site which is being proactively marketed through commercial agents.”
A “national marketing campaign” is said to be underway to find an operator for a “planned new multi-functional building.”
In the meantime, the council has confirmed plans to replace and redecorate the hoardings around the Sea Road site in order to ‘improve’ the overall appearance of the area.
When questioned about the new hoardings, North East Lincolnshire Council simply stated that costs were ‘unavailable’.
Updates to follow.
