Police stop drunk driver, domestic assault, and theft in busy night of patrols

Sunday saw a busy night of patrols for officers in Humberside Police, with multiple arrests being made.

In one incident police stooped a car that had no lights on despite it being well past midnight.

After following the vehicle it became clear that the driver was under the influence of a substance, prompting police to pull the driver over.

The breath test concluded that the driver was over the legal limit for alcohol and was arrested.

Further checks revealed that not only was the driver drunk, but also had no license or any valid insurance.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Whilst officers were on routine high visibility mobile patrol tonight a vehicle passed us by with no lights on. Rather odd we thought considering it was dark. Our noses were twitching and spidey senses tingling.

“We followed the vehicle a short distance and it was clear the driver was impaired by the manner of their driving. The vehicle was safely stopped and the driver provided a positive breath sample so was therefore arrested for driving whilst over the prescribed limit of alcohol.

“It then transpired the driver did not have a full substantive driving license nor any valid insurance for the vehicle! The vehicle was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. The driver will be reported for both offences and summoned to court.”

Other offenses were also reported, with officers stopping domestic assault and attempted theft all within the same evening.

In a midnight update, the force shared: “It’s been a busy few hours for #Patrolteam3 since midnight. Numerous arrests made including a female for breaching a domestic violence protection notice, a male for a domestic assault and assaulting an officer and another male for an attempted theft of a motor vehicle.”
