Ongo launches scheme to help young people into work

Ongo has launched a new scheme to help young people get into work, it has been announced.

The pilot traineeship scheme is aimed at 16-18-year-olds which will see them undertake a 12-week placement.

During their placement, each participant will have access to quality work experience with businesses in the local area, each providing valuable first-hand experiences and opportunities for later life.

The pilot scheme will operate until July 2022 with the aim of securing additional funding if successful.

If deemed successful, and providing extra funding has been secured, the scheme will continue to run on a longer-term basis.

The scheme will offer traineeships in catering and the hospitality sector, alongside maintenance businesses, administration, and customer service.

In addition to ‘hands on’ work experience, Ongo will provide employability and interpersonal skills sessions, ranging from CV writing, interview preparation and job searching.

Whilst the traineeship is unpaid, Ongo will provide financial aid to support the difficult situations that some participants may face.

Maryanne Fitzgerald, Enterprise & Engagement Manager at Ongo, said:

“These traineeships will be a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain valuable work experience, learn about potential progression routes and to get a valuable insight into the labour market and the opportunities available to them.”

“We will be working with local organisations to provide a range of traineeships in different sectors to ensure there is something for everyone”, they added.
