The Mariners announce second recruit of the summer!

The Mariners have announced their second new recruit of the summer following a busy day of transfer news.

Grimsby have kept fans busy throughout the day after announcing two transfer deals prior to their newest summer signing.

Earlier this afternoon, Town confirmed Luke Waterfall had extended his stay at the club for an additional two years, a massive boost for Grimsby’s defensive back line following his remarkable season for the Black and White Army.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said with Ben Fox. The club announced the departure of the 24-year-old after being offered a “great contract” by Paul Hurst, instead Fox decided to sign to League Two rivals, Northampton Town.

Now, Danilo Orsi has joined the Black and White Army after signing from Harrogate Town on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old spent a total of three years in the United States, studying Business Management at Eastern Floride State College. As he studied, Orsi played for the College team and broke their goalscoring record after netting 27 goals in 32 appearances.

After representing Chivas and Fort Lauderdale in the States, the new Mariner returned to England in 2018.

The striker played for several non-league sides such East Thurrock United, Hungerford Town, Hampton & Richmond Borough, and most notably, Maidenhead United where he was voted as the fans’ player of the year – during his season with the Magpies, Orsi scored 21 goals in 41 appearances!

Then in 2021, a move to Harrogate Town was confirmed before a short loan spell at Boreham Wood in January of this year.

Speaking to Grimsby after signing, Orsi said he is “really happy” to be joining “such as big club”, adding:

“I just can’t wait to get going. I want to bring goals, I just love scoring goals, I love being in the box. I don’t really care how it goes in, off my shoulder, or off my knee as long as it ends up in the back of the net, I am happy and hopefully give the fans something to cheer about.

“I think that was definitely one of the big pulls of coming to such a big club, the fan base is really good here.”

Grimsby gaffer, Paul Hurst, said Orsi is a player that will do a “good job” for the team before confirming the stirker had been on Town’s radar for some time:

“I’m delighted to have Danilo on board. He is a player that I tried to sign last summer and although we have gone up a league, he is someone that can come and do a good job for us.

“He has got a fantastic attitude, I believe he is a goalscorer and sometimes, yes you reach a certain level, but every time I have watched him, he has sniffed chances out and hopefully he can do that for us as well.”
